The South Frankfort Food Share brings you fresh, locally grown produce at sliding scale prices. We make this cooperative project a reality by combining our resources, purchasing directly from farmers, and working together.

One Food Share includes a variety of produce—about two grocery bags full—plus recipes featuring its contents. Every shareholder receives the same amount and quality of produce, regardless of what they pay.

We’ll have 11 Food Shares in 2024. Check out our 2024 schedule above and ordering info and more below. The is also a link to past Food Share recipes below!

Please stop by and visit us at the Farmers Market or email Eddie at freshfood@franklincountyfarmersmarket.org if you would like to receive emails about the 2024 Food Share.

How do I order?

Order a share here on our website or at the Farmers Market Welcome Table (Tues. & Sat., 8:30 am–12:00 noon). Customers shopping with SNAP need to make their purchases in person using their SNAP/EBT/P-EBT card. SNAP payments can be made at the prior Food Share, Market Welcome Table, or by other arrangement, as needed.  Contact Eddie by email or at 502-472-4639 to place a SNAP order.

Check out our Full Season Shares!

Know you want to be a part of the Food Share all season long? Want to order once and know you are signed up for the whole season? Our full season share is for you!

Why are the shares different prices?

The Food Share is available on a sliding scale, based on your income and family size. You decide what you pay:

  • $6 for folks purchasing a share with their SNAP/EBT cards (Visit the Farmers Market or contact vista@franklincountyfarmersmarket.org to shop with SNAP)

  • $12 for anyone on the sliding income scale**

  • $30 for a regular price share (the retail value of the Food Share is $30-35).

  • $40 for community members with additional resources looking for great local food and an opportunity to support fresh, local food for all. We call this the Food Justice Share.

Whether you spend $6 on your SNAP/EBT card or $40 for the Food Justice Share, you take home the same food.

** We use the federal WIC Income Eligibility Guidelines to determine limited income, regardless of whether you the shareholder has children. If you meet the income requirements for WIC eligibility, you qualify for a $12 Food Share.

How much food do I get?

You can expect lots—at least nine different kinds of locally grown produce—in your Food Share. Contents depend on what's growing in our farmers' fields that week! Throughout the season, you may receive: lettuce, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, corn, zucchini, broccoli, peppers, kale, winter squash, apples, turnips, radishes, cabbage, and fresh herbs.

Who is South Frankfort Food Share?

The South Frankfort Food Share is a cooperative food-buying project initiated by the Franklin County Farmers Market and now coordinated by the Friends of the Franklin County Farmers Market, and inspired by the work of New Roots, Inc., and their Fresh Stop Markets. The South Frankfort Food Share is run by community volunteers who want to bring healthy, fresh food to more people in Frankfort. We have an amazing group of Food Share volunteers, and we are always looking for folks who want to have fun and help out at the South Frankfort Food Share!

Email freshfood@franklincountyfarmersmarket.org with questions or if you would like to get involved!

All of the vegetables in the Food Share are purchased from Franklin County Farmers Market vendors and other area farmers. This program helps bring more fresh food to our community and more income to local farmers.
